What to look for in an Exit Light?

When looking for an exit light, you should be looking for the following qualities:

  •  LED Power Source. This is a must when it comes to replacing exit lights. The new exit should be LED not flourescent or cold cathode.
  • Does my exit light contain a battery? Lower class emergency lighting products contain a Ni-Cad battery, you would be suprised how many sellers are still selling exit lights with Ni-Cads in them. We provide Industry leading LifePo4 Lithium Batteries in our exits. These are the latest in battery technology and will last a very long time.
  • Is this exit light suitable for my application? We provide such a diverse range of exit light and emergency light products to meet all different kinds of requirements. We have a large range of exit light fittings available, we cant say the same to our competitors. They just don’t focus on exit light and emergency lighting how we do.

What is an Exit Light used for?

An exit light is a light fitting with a pictogram attached in a public facility (such as a building, aircraft, or boat) denoting the location of the closest emergency exit in case of fire or other emergencies that requires evacuation. Most relevant codes (firebuilding, health, or safety) require exit signs to be permanently lit.

Exit signs are designed to be absolutely unmistakable and understandable to anyone. In the past, this generally meant exit signs that show the word “EXIT” or the equivalent in the local language, but increasingly exit signs around the world are in pictogram form, with or without supplementary text. In Australia. Our law for exit light and emergency light is the AS2293.3 (emergency escape lighting)

What does AS2293.3 have to do with an Exit Light?

When people need to get out of a building, the exit lights need to be uniform and identical, this way, people can see a familiar guide to quickly follow exit routes to get to safety. Globex Lighting provides several running man diffuser sheets in each exit light package so you can correctly map out the buildings escape route.

Does an electrician need to install the Exit Light?

Yes, 100% of the time. A licensed electrician or tradesman with the correct qualifications such as fire contractor, electrical contractor. They will need to install the light (hardwire it directly in the building) and if the need arises to connect it to an emergency test unit.
